Golden Spiral
18 March 2020
This is an interesting piece of public art made using cast iron columns salvaged from the West Pier in Brighton. What little remains of the pier is in the background.
The golden spiral is a representation of the Fibonacci sequence, with adjacent numbers related by the golden ratio. This is found in nature (think sunflower seed heads) and used as a way to achieve natural harmonious composition in architecture and art.
King's Parade
2 March 2020
After some weeks of winter hibernation I’m back to a bit of photography.
Here’s the main gate and the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge. The college buildings are so astoundingly good looking and historic that even the Victorian post box outside the gate is a listed building.
The best view of this scene is from a seat in the window of The Copper Kettle at brunch time.
Aged Angel
19 January 2020
Finally strapped on my camera and stepped out this afternoon to start photographing the world of 2020.
Keeping it local, I visited Mill Road Cemetery in Cambridge.
There’s lots to enjoy (in a contemplative way) when walking around, and the many old and overgrown graves present opportunities for a photo.
This angel seemed to be bearing the years with stoic resolve, despite being vandalised by having her upraised arm knocked off (out of shot).
Transition
6 January 2020
This is my last post of photos from our USA holiday, as we begin the new year back in the UK.
Here is the peace and quiet of the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco. A restful and meditative place to reflect on 2019 and set the mood for whatever 2020 has in store.
Happy New Year.
San Francisco Bay
27 December 2019
Having signed-up for an evening boat trip around the bay it was a bit disappointing from a photography point of view to discover that at this time of year it’s already dark by the time the trip starts.
Never put off by a bit of difficulty like absolute total darkness I grabbed this view of the city taken from almost underneath the Oakland Bay Bridge.
