(un)Balanced
5 November 2019
Back to the Queensland trip for this post.
This beach, along the Captain Cook Highway* near Wangetti is a testament to something. I’m just not sure what. Creativity? The need to tame nature? Groupthink**?
Be careful if you visit, there’s not a lot of space for cars to stop. Pulling in and rejoining the road are potentially dangerous.
* The Captain Hook Highway or the Captain Kirk Highway would also be interesting places to visit.
** I’m sure that photographing other people’s piles of rock would also qualify as a form of psychopathy.
Faking It
31 October 2019
Before October is out, here comes Christmas.
It’s 25° in the shade, but there are pictures of snowmen everywhere. A reminder that I’ll soon be back in the northern hemisphere.
Is this a genuine expression of Christmas surprise atop Kmart in Waratah, or are they faking it?
To be fair, Trevor Dickinson was on to this several years ago, so it is not an original idea.
Relic
28 October 2019
Here’s a picture from the heart of the Daintree tropical rainforest. This huge saw, driven by an equally dilapidated fifty or sixty year-old tractor that stands nearby, was once used as part of a hardwood logging operation.
It has obviously been idle for a long time. Nature is slowly taking its revenge.
Window Seat
23 October 2019
Had a fabulous stay in Port Douglas, QLD last week. Plenty of potential photos to post when I get time to work on them.
Meantime from my window seat just after take-off from Sydney I spied a great view of the harbour and snapped it with my phone. The window curvature has blurred the bottom edge but there’s plenty to spot in the rest of the picture.
Click on it for a closer look.
Destiny
9 October 2019
Here’s the Destiny monument at the entrance to the port of Newcastle, dedicated to commemorate 200 years of port operations in 1999. There’s no public access to the site, so the only way to see it up close is with a boat, or a long lens.
My destiny is now to return to the UK at Christmas.
