Baloon Fiesta

6 October 2019

Back in Australia, and up at a ridiculous hour this morning to watch around 30 baloons lift off in the Hunter Valley.

This was a great spectacle, with unrestricted access following a safety talk. Really fun to watch and to photograph. This is one of dozens of colourful pictures taken in about 30 minutes of non-stop shooting.

Cambridge

4 October 2019

I did finally make an excursion to Cambridge city centre last week, and here’s a picture in Great St Mary’s Street that captures a few stereotypical features of the city at a glimpse.

Notice the old stone walls of Great St Mary’s church, lots of greenery, posters tied to the railings, a bike locked to the railings, a lock on the railings without a bike, red phone boxes, a cyclist (on a bike with a wicker basket), and yes, it rained.

Can you also spot the Dinky Doors TELEPORT-O-MATIC?

Dawn Light

24 September 2019

Here’s another picture from my early morning excursion to Stockton at the start of the month. I’ve been in the UK for a few weeks with practically no time to take photos, but I’m determined to keep posting something here! As Newcastle subjects go, Nobby’s Lighthouse is a bit of a cliché, but this turned out to be a nice evocative view in the early light. I still hope there will be time for a rain-soaked photography excursion in Cambridge before I leave home to go back to Newcastle for a while.

Beached

14 September 2019

This boat has been laying on its side at Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, for quite a while. It is presumably awaiting a big repair or will be scrapped. When the tide is in and there’s water visible on the bridge and half covering the deck it looks a lot sadder than when it’s high and dry like this. Here it could be just taking a nap on the beach.

Newcastle Springs to Life

3 September 2019

This is Newcastle CBD waking up early on Sunday morning, the first day of spring. You can see here the mixture of old and new buildings that gave me the idea to create Oldies in Newy as a project earlier this year.

I made the most of the early morning light and got some more shots of the city, and Nobby’s Lighthouse at sunrise. Taking early morning pictures makes a change from capturing the sun going down, and of course lights everything up from a different direction.
