Southbank Skaters
14 October 2021
Had a very photo-intensive weekend; Saturday on a course in London with Lou Smith and Sunday at the Henry Moore sculpture park with Zara Matthews. Both excellent teachers giving valuable guidance and setting interesting assignments. Got back on Sunday just in time to catch a spectacular sunset over Ely Cathedral reflected in the water of Roswell Pits. I’ll post that another time.
Early Light
23 September 2021
An early morning stroll earlier this week brought me here to the riverside with only the occasional dog walker or jogger for company.
It’s a pity that the Lincoln Bridge is so brutalist and utilitarian. The bridge is named after Harry Lincoln, a renowned local boat builder in the mid 20th Century.
Give us a Ring

These are the bells of St Mary’s Church in Rye, Sussex.
The church has great views to photograph from the tower, but these bells were a quick snap I took on the long and awkward climb up.
Their predecessors had an interesting history. These ‘new’ ones replaced them in 1775.
Rising With the Sun

Up early this morning as we’re staying just across the road from this east-facing beach at Littlestone, Kent.
The tide was out and so the sea was nowhere to be seen until about 4 hours later, but the reflections from the shallow water and rippling sand more than made up for it.
Mother...
26 August 2021
An artwork on a different scale to Gaia (see ‘Looking Up’ below), this is Mother… by Heather and Ivan Morison. It looks like a fenland hayrick (or an oversized muffin).
It has been living at Wicken Fen for a while and is about to be decommissioned.
The inside is meant as a womb-like place of shelter, peace and contemplation, but I found it quite disorienting.
