The Ship of the Fens

With the previous post showing Ely Cathedral on the inside, this time I’ve picked a view of the outside. The building has been putting up with the weather for almost 1000 years, so this wet and windy evening won’t trouble it at all.

Looking Up

Here is the touring artwork Gaia by Luke Jerram, displayed inside Ely Cathedral.

The work includes a soundtrack that plays while you marvel at the Earth (what a dull name) as it revolves.

The fisheye view uses the light from the lantern roof of the octagon to balance the composition, and manages to show the altar and the whole length of the nave of the cathedral too.

New Vistas

A busy few weeks has pushed photography down the priority list. Now, having upped and moved to Ely there is so much to point a camera at. The whole city is as pretty as a picture so I’m going to need an iron will to avoid capturing nothing but twee postcard images like this one.

Moonrise

It isn’t often you see a cat on a beach, but this one came with its human to see the moon rise over the pacific ocean.

Not a great photo technically, but a bit of creative editing of a shot I originally ignored when I took it in 2019 makes for an interesting enough picture. I’m still not sure that I have the colours quite right

Just Eat Melons

Snapped on my phone whilst out shopping last month, these water melons are parked outside the new Harvest supermarket on Mill Road.

Harvest is a welcome new shop selling organic foods. Their fresh produce is especially good. It replaced Kailesh hardware and kitchen shop, another well loved business that had traded on Mill Road for many years.
