Catherine Hill Bay

29 October 2020

Another nostalgia trip. A trip I can only take in my head.

How different is cold and rainy autumn in the UK from the balmy autumn in New South Wales in this picture from April 2019.

Catherine Hill Bay has a great beach combined with rusting relics of an industrial past, dominated by this coal loading jetty.

Tree, Path, Cyclist

23 October 2020

I’m not really sure why I like this picture, but I do – so maybe the why isn’t important.

It is another picture from my walk on Coldhams Common.

Optical illusion alert! If you stare at the tree, the clouds may appear to be moving.

Tizz

20 October 2020

Here’s Tizz, one of a herd of around 20 cattle on Coldhams Common in Cambridge. Common grazing rights on the common reputedly date back to the middle ages.

Tizz and friends all seem gentle and curious. They stopped eating and paid attention to what I was doing. This was pleasant for a short time, but a bit disconcerting and felt passive-agressive after a while.

I took a couple of pictures and moved on.

Dreams of Flight

Another picture from the cabinets of the Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities.

The objects on display seem to be placed randomly, but that just adds to the fun of finding interesting juxtapositions when composing a picture.

An Odd Couple

7 October 2020

On Sunday, paid a visit to the Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities in Mare Street, Dalston. This was part of an organised photo meetup.

Definitely a place I would want to return to and browse again. Socially distanced photography in the confined basement with a mask on was not all that easy and there was a lot to see and contemplate.

It wasn’t possible to use my steaming-up specs and my steaming-up camera viewfinder at the same time, so I missed reading the labels on exhibits as the cost of using my camera.

Next time I will do a little less photography and find out more about the amazing and bizarre collection of objects.
