Passing Time

29 September 2020

This is an ‘oldie’.

A few favourites have been shown in the carousel on the home page and then been superseded so I thought it might be worthwhile to recycle them into the blog. I took this picture of the Corpus Clock in 2016 when on an expedition with Tony Lumb’s adult education advanced photography class, based at Hills Road College.

Sadly the course doesn’t run any more.

The Art Class

21 September 2020

The Botanic Gardens again. As our weird summer turns to weird autumn, maybe a last opportunity for a while to witness people out and about before yet another set of different rules about who can go where with whom is introduced and we lock ourselves away for the winter.

Boats and Trains

The quayside at Ely is busy and picturesque, especially in summer. Maybe there’s a bit too much going on in this photo, but that’s just how it is.

The Bee's Knees

21 August 2020

Buddleia (also spelled buddleja apparently – who knew?) is a plant that attracts clouds of butterflies and bees. There are two monstrously overgrown examples in our garden, and they’re always a popular stopping off point for bees, a perfect opportunity to get in for a close look.

View from Great St. Mary's

13 August 2020

About three weeks ago, made the steady climb to the top of the tower of Great St. Mary’s Church.  The views of Cambridge in every direction make the effort worthwhile. This is my favourite though – looking west to the Senate House, the Old Schools and King’s College chapel. From here you also see the fenland ‘big sky’ over the flat countryside beyond the city.

This is a wide-angle shot from my phone, corrected for perspective in PhotoShop.
