Angel

7 April 2025

Here I am, photographing sculpture again, this time Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North at Gateshead.
It was an hour’s drive each way from where we’re staying, but worth it for a long awaited view of this monster-sized artwork at dusk.
This ‘posterior’ view lit by the low sun turned out to be a better shot than my silhouette from the other side.

The Sugar Dock

25 March 2025

Returning home with almost 3000 raw files to look through from Australia, this is one of my favourites.

Port Douglas was a timely refuge from the Brisbane cyclone and here the more benevolent weather made a lovely pastel sunset sky.

Curtis Falls...

4 March 2025

…but gets up again and dusts himself off.

This modest sized waterfall is in the Mount Tamborine area of Queensland.

I’ll probably spend time on better post-production of this scene after the holiday. I have some bracketed exposures that may or may not blend well.

Cape Byron

25 February 2025

The easternmost point of mainland Australia is adjacent to the town of Byron Bay, named after ‘mad, bad and dangerous to know’ Lord Byron’s grandfather.

I noticed in this shot that the shape of the clouds somehow echoes the shape of the white fences.

Old Friends

19 February 2025

So good to be back in Australia for a while, and to catch-up with Chris and his photo walk group. Also ran into this old friend on Sunday’s walk, a sculpture* by the Warners Bay jetty. Happily a passer-by sat down at the end of the jetty, mirroring the pose.
